Darby Hannah - Six Months

I'm finally getting around to Darby's six month update. Not sure much has changed in the last month. But I'll try to report on everything again.

Sleep: Lately she's sleeping through the night good. Sometimes she will wake up in the middle of the night but it's as if she's not all the way awake. She just needs some cuddling and then she's back to dream land. Not sure if she's having nightmares or what it is that's waking her up. And actually she doesn't wake all the way up. Her eyes will never open. She just cries. Then we'll pick her up, rock a bit and it settles her down. On an interesting side note - We met a couple at Wal-Mart last night with a five month old and they told us they were having trouble getting him to sleep in his own bed. We told them our little trick that we use with Darby. We use the boppy pillow in her crib. It helps her feel secure and since her head is elevated we hope it helps with drainage when her allergies are acting up. She usually slides off of it during the night and turns on her side or belly. But it seems to make the transfer from arms to bed a little smoother.

Teeth: No new chompers yet. The two on the bottom are really breaking thru. A few times this weekend and last week we had some moments where I knew her mouth was really hurting her but so far we just have the two little pearly whites on the bottom.
Feeding: Darby is still taking about the same amount of formula but we've increased her "food" and she usually has some juice in the afternoons. So far she's digging peas and green beans. She also sampled some mashed potatoes and pears and ... don't yell at me .. ice cream from our plates. We also let her have a lick of a pickle and lemon. That was pretty fun. :-) When I was pregnant we bought a baby food maker and I'm thinking about getting that out and putting it to use. Tony and I both really like the idea of making our own baby food. We'll see if we feel the same way after giving the new machine a whirl.

Clothing: We're quickly out putting the 3-6 month sleepers and are moving on to 6-9 months. And we just starting putting her in size 3 diapers this weekend. Guess we're right on schedule! Darby's room and closet are seriously getting out of hand. I desperately need to go thru and box up the small stuff and get the bigger stuff in drawers. Mom and I have a tendency to just grab her clothes that are in the dresser instead of looking in the closet and we've missed our chance at wearing some cute stuff just because we forgot about it. Babies grow out of clothes SO quickly and there's only a small window of time to get in all those cute outfits! Speaking of cute, we picked up a little sun hat to wear when we go to the river. SO STINKING ADORABLE!

Milestones: Darby is really starting to master the sitting up stuff. We're setting her in the floor or on our bed with a bunch of toys more often now. She's also doing the "rocking" thing. She'll roll over, get up on her hands and knees and rock back and forth. No crawling, yet. But we know we're getting close and that's pretty scary. We realized this weekend that we're going to need a new entertainment center because the one we have now is low and really open and little baby fingers are bound to get tangled into some wires. She's also getting really good at sitting in high chairs and shopping carts which is GREAT because we don't have to tote the car seat with us everywhere. Man, that thing is getting heavy! And also Tony is worried that Darby is about to out-grow her car seat. Her little legs are getting so long and pretty soon she'll be too tall for it. And you should see the funny faces this kid makes! Pictures can not accurately capture the cuteness with the wrinkled nose, crinkled eyes and puckered lips!

So that's our little baby update for now. Can't believe our little sweet pea is already a half a year old!
